Nature Weaving Activities

Weaving is a fun activity for all ages. It teaches children fine-motor skills and encourages creativity. It’s also incredibly calming. Continue reading to learn how to make Stick Looms, Rainbow Looms, and Nature Looms.


Stick Looms

Benefits: Fine-motor Skills and Creativity

Materials: You will need four small sticks and twine or yarn.

Prep: Tie four sticks together to make a square.

Activity: With grownup assistance, children can wrap string or colorful yarn around the sticks.

Rainbow Looms

This colorful weaving activity is a favorite: rainbow looms.

Benefits: Fine-motor Skills, Creativity, Color Recognition

Materials: You will need cardboard, scissors, and yarn.

Prep: Create a cardboard cutout of a rainbow. You can download and print a rainbow stencil here.

Activity: With grownup assistance, children can wrap colorful yarn around the cardboard cutout rainbow.

Nature Looms

Collect nature treasures and bend them into the twine.

Benefits: Outdoor activity, Fine-motor Skills, and Creativity.

Materials: You will need cardboard, scissors, twine, and nature treasures.

Prep: Create a cardboard cutout of a rectangle (or really any shape!). Along the edges on 2 sides made 1-inch cuts. Then weave together twine along the cuts.

Activity: Go exploring and collect nature treasures with your empty cardboard looms. Bend the nature finds into the twine on your looms.
